NAME OF CHAIRMAN
Institute of Data Governance of Nigeria (IDGN)
The Institute of Data Governance of Nigeria (IDGN) is a professional, knowledge-driven and multidisciplinary institution dedicated to advancing excellence in data governance, responsible data management and trusted data use in Nigeria and beyond.
We exist to promote a culture in which data is recognised not merely as a digital asset, but as a strategic resource that must be governed responsibly, protected appropriately, managed effectively and used ethically to create sustainable value for individuals, organisations and society.
As data becomes increasingly central to government, healthcare, finance, education, business, research, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, effective data governance has become essential to building trust, improving decision-making, strengthening accountability and achieving sustainable development.
IDGN brings together professionals, policymakers, researchers, academics, technology leaders, organisations and other stakeholders to advance the principles, standards, knowledge and practices required for a mature data governance ecosystem.
OUR PURPOSE
Our purpose is to strengthen the capacity of individuals, organisations and institutions to govern data effectively throughout its lifecycle, while promoting trust, accountability, privacy, security, quality, interoperability, transparency, ethical use and responsible innovation.
We seek to contribute to a Nigeria where data can be trusted, shared responsibly, protected appropriately and transformed into meaningful social and economic value.

Evidence-Based.
We encourage decisions and policies informed by research, reliable evidence and measurable outcomes.

We promote sound governance principles that remain relevant as technologies evolve.
Ethics-Driven.
We advocate responsible data practices that respect privacy, fairness, transparency, dignity and accountability.

IDGN therefore embraces a global outlook with a strong Nigerian foundation.
We seek to learn from international good practices while contributing African perspectives, experiences and solutions to the global data governance community.
We envision a future in which organisations do not simply collect more data, but govern it better.
A future where data is:
- Available when it should be available.
- Protected when it must be protected.
- Accurate when decisions depend on it.
- Shared when sharing creates legitimate value.
- Used ethically when it affects people.
- Governed responsibly throughout its lifecycle.
This is the future IDGN seeks to help build.
